Water Heater Rusty: Rheem EH-40M at Waterfall Gardens
A Waterfall Gardens homeowner experienced a Water Heater Rusty issue with their Rheem EH-40M. Homeone replaced it with a new unit of the same model, ensuring compliance with PUB standards.
Before: Rheem EH-40M
After: Rheem EH-40M
Date Of Replacement: 24 Apr 2025
Project Location: Farrer Road

Before Replacement:

The existing Rheem EH-40M heater was leaking at the base of the tank’s water pipe connection. Rust-coloured water stained the ceiling, indicating internal corrosion and active leakage, requiring urgent replacement to prevent further property damage.
After Replacement:

A new Rheem EH-40M heater was installed with secure fittings. The installation was professionally completed and certified, restoring a safe and reliable hot water supply with a proper PUB-compliant setup.
Inspection Findings
- Rust stains were found on the heater tank and inlet connection, indicating internal corrosion.
- Brown water leaked from the tank base, confirming rust contamination in the system.
- Ceiling damage was visible beneath the heater due to ongoing water leaks.
- The cold water inlet lacked a PUB-approved check valve as required by SS636.
- Without a check valve, there was a risk of backflow contaminating the drinking water supply.
New Components Replacement
- Rheem EH-40M (new unit)
- New mounting bracket and anchor bolts
- Double check valve
- Stop valve
- Stainless steel piping for hot, cold and drain pipe (within 1m)
- Electrical bonding cable
Replacement work scope:
- Shut off the electrical and water supply
- Remove the faulty EH-40M unit safely
- Assess structural mounting and restore the ceiling area clearance
- Install a new EH-40M unit with updated fitting
- Reinstate water and electrical connections
- Test for proper operation, leaks, and insulation resistance
- Perform the water pressure test and water temperature test under PUB-licensed plumber supervision
- The PUB compliance submission

All safety measures, fittings, and connections complied with PUB regulations and Singapore Standard CP5:1998 for electrical safety. PUB submission was duly completed for documentation.
