Rheem 85VP6S Replacement with PUB Submission at Lorong Paya Lebar

A homeowner at Lorong Paya Lebar reported a leaking Rheem 85VP6S water heater. Inspection confirmed internal corrosion and missing PUB-mandated safety features. We replaced it with a new Rheem 85VP6S, fully compliant with SS636 and documented through a PUB Submission under a PUB Licensed Plumber’s supervision.

Before: Rheem 85VP6S
After: Rheem 85VP6S
Date Of Replacement: 21 Mar 2025
Project Location: Lorong Paya Lebar

Before Replacement:

The old water heater showed signs of severe internal rust, and the hot water output was discoloured. There was no double check valve, drain pipe, or earth bonding, posing a hygiene and electrical hazard.

After Replacement:

We replaced the faulty heater with a new Ariston AN2 15 RS unit. New safety fittings were installed to ensure clean water delivery and safe electrical performance.

Inspection Findings

  • Visible tank body leakage due to internal corrosion
  • No anti-vacuum valve installed
  • Missing double-check valve at cold inlet (non-compliant with SS636)
  • Corroded fittings and rust around pipe joints
  • No previous PUB Submission or documentation on record

Components Replaced for PUB Submission Compliance:

  • Rheem 85VP6S electric storage heater
  • Anti-vacuum valve – Prevents tank collapse by allowing air in during pressure drops; required for PUB compliance.
  • Double Check Valve – Prevents backflow contamination
  • Drain Pipe – Safely channels overflow water
  • 2.5mm² Cable – Provides essential electrical bonding and supplies a new power supply cable for the heater.
  • Earth Bonding – Ensures electrical safety
  • Gate Valve – Allows shut-off for maintenance

Replacement work scope:

  • Isolated power and water supply
  • Dismantled and disposed of leaking Rheem 85VP6S
  • Cleared corroded pipework and fittings
  • Installed new Rheem 85VP6S
  • Fitted anti-vacuum valve per the manufacturer’s specification
  • Drain Pipe: Ensures safe discharge from PRV
  • 2.5mm Cable & Earth Bonding: Protects users from electric shock risks
  • Installed PUB-compliant double-check valve
  • Replaced pipes with stainless steel (within 1m)
  • Verified bonding continuity
  • Leak and pressure testing conducted
  • Final inspection completed
  • Submitted all documentation and photo records as part of the PUB Submission
PUB Submission at Lorong Paya Lebar

Our PUB Licensed Plumber has endorsed that the work is done in accordance with the conditions stated below:

  1. All water service installations must be in accordance with the Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulations, Singapore Standards 636 for Water Services, and all other relevant statutory requirements.
  2. The proposed works shall not adversely affect the existing water supply reticulation system.
  3. The proposed water storage heater is installed in accordance with the specifications and requirements of the manufacturer.
  4. The installation of double-check valves is safe and effective in preventing backflow and the back-siphonage of water from the storage water heater through the heater inlet pipe, and will be safe for use.

Conclusion:

This project highlights the importance of a PUB Submission, even for same-model replacements. The original installation lacked key safety features. Our team carried out the replacement in full compliance with SS636, under the supervision of a PUB Licensed Plumber. All works were recorded through a PUB Submission to ensure safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
